Bought a new beanie (touque for you Canadians) for my trip.

One of the first things we did was go to Lake Michigan so I could see all the ice blown up on shore by the wind.

Not that I care about football but the Chicago Bears were in the superbowl and several buildings used their office lights to spell out support.

I went to the Shedd Aquarium on superbowl Sunday since I knew it'd be empty. Why the penguin exhibit was indoors was beyond me.

On the walk back to Union Station the bottle of water on the outside of my backpack froze.

On my way home. That's a very well know piece of public art at O'hare airport for y'all who don't know.

My friend Mark who works for United hooked me up with a friend-of-employee-standby-fare which got me upgraded to first class. My flight back was on a 777 that had just come from Germany so it was equipped with lay-flat seats that were so large it was obscene.

Ladies and gents, I'm back. I've decided I'm leaving Long Beach when my lease is up in February and I've only begun to consider where I might end up. I expect to resume posting regularly again to document my final months in Long Beach.

I posted some thoughts / requirements on XGW:

I'm currently exploring my options for moving to a gay-friendly city with more affordable housing than exists in southern California.

Cities must have at least half a million residents and the median home price must be near or below a quarter million dollars.

Government recognition of partnerships is not required but non-discrimination laws at either the state or local level are.

Hot is preferred to cold.

Thoughts anyone?

(And it's kind of funny that Exodus' hometown of Orlando now almost fits the bill.)

The following email was received at 5am this morning. It far surpasses any drunk dial I have ever gotten. Sorry, the name of the sender and the name of the guy he mentions have been removed to protect the innocent.

dude, dan, jesus, why didn't _____ send me his fucking phone number? i did e tonight with some friends (totally perfectly against my own better judgement) and i'm here alone in my apartment at like, nearly 6 o fucking clock and i'm still high as a kite and loving it too much to take the fucking tylenol PM that I know will restore my circadian rhythms to something normal. anyway, where the hell was i? yes, _____. your friend _____ is here right now and maybe like, the only person i know of who is still awake right now. i could have gone home with some hot dudes from the club, but i would have needed to make that move MUCH earlier, because it went from respectably sketchy to SUPER DUPER sketchy before I realized that I wanted to hang out or cuddle with someone.

anyway, ______ being a nice guy and a known quantity, i wanted to text him and see if he's still up and out and wanted to drop by and hang out or bring boys over for crazy stupid rave kid makeout sessions or something.

but alas. for once, my bad luck has probably served me well. but maybe send me his phone number for next time i'm high as a kite at nearly 6 in the morning.

Chad had his b-day party here last week.

The singing Elvis Thai restaurant has moved. They're now a couple blocks away in the mini storage building with that neon sign of stick figures moving boxes.

Chen's Chinese near my pad in Long Beach. Their portions are so big when you get food to-go they can't even close the cartons. Instead they just leave the cartons spilling over with food and put them in a plastic bag tied shut. Why they simply don't get larger to-go cartons if beyond me.
